gallery wall go-to

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

I have been collecting gallery wall art for this whole bedroom renovation idea of mine over the last few months. To put it simply, it has proven more difficult than originally anticipated. I feel like almost everyday there is a new gallery wall posted on one of the blogs I follow, so lack of inspiration isn't the problem. This abundance may also be why some people think gallery walls are overdone. This might be true, but I think they are aesthetically brilliant and I have the perfect wall space right across from my bed.

I made a promise with myself that if I was going to spend money on art, it had to be something original. Maybe most importantly, I want to feel connected to the art immediately upon seeing it. No second guessing. No trying to picture it in my room. I think the art we have in our homes are little windows our visitors can peek into to see what we deem important. If you have really out-there abstract art, you probably value free thinking and non-conformity. My aunt, who loves 80s pop (which is awesome), has her old vinyl album covers framed throughout her entire basement. My mom has a lot of the Italian countryside, us kids, and religious symbols on the walls. Mine will surely be a mix of encouraging words and pretty images.

If I had to choose one artist I've found through Etsy for the entire gallery wall, it would be Jessica Durrant from JessicaIllustration. Completely in love with her designs. Don't you agree?

What would (or do!) you include in your gallery wall?

Here's a look in to my life at the moment.....

I'm sitting at the downtown office, sipping a Coors Light (with a K-State coozie, check my Instagram), perusing the internets waiting for the afternoon meetings to begin. A few times this week I've caught myself going back to the new Zara Home site. Have you checked it out yet? If not, I highly recommend. Plus, it's free shipping through the month of October! I'm loving their acrylic side tables, gold flatware, and white bedding sets.

After scouring tons of places online and in stores, I have finally decided where I'm getting my white duvet cover for the bedroom renovation: Zara Home! Here's a sneak peek.

Here's a little game for your hump day. Which one does not belong:

Did you figure it out? OK I'll tell you, it's the last picture. Which is also my room. Do you feel like you know me better now? I kind of feel like you're peeping Toms... Kidding.

My roomie and I have officially renewed our lease and are staying in our spacious apartment on the Plaza for another 10 months. Before signing on the dotted line, we debated renting a small house in the Prairie Village area. Although we eventually decided against it, the decorating ideas leftover are still very much with me.

A few weeks ago I went to my Interiors Pinterest board to see if there were any recurring themes I could easily implement in a new living space. (Side note: How many walk-in closets and gigantic ranges does one girl need to pin?) One decor pattern kept popping up from my year and a half of pinning: simple white linens in the bedroom.

I've already mentioned my issue with white comforters here, but I really think I should try this in my own room. I've never had a crisp, white bed. The duvet cover you see above is circa college. Anyone else still have their college comforter? I sure hope not but if you do, at least you now know you're not alone. This duvet cover just happens to match our walls that I can only describe as "not-quite-finished-baking-caramel" colored. I tried to spice it up with the cute Anthro bed skirt, which kept me from buying new linens for the last two years.

The current color scheme throughout my bedroom is jewel-toned, which I still enjoy (especially on nails) but am ready for a change. My goal over the next few weeks is to show you peeks of my room as I slowly go through the change from peacock hues to white with a few pops of color.
