friday hangover playlist

Friday, March 30, 2012

We've all been there (and if someone hasn't, it's bound to happen). You go out on a Thursday for an innocent happy hour and before you know it your alarm is going off at 6:45 on Friday morning. Your hair is in a rats nest and your mascara is clumped to eye lashes that are going in all sorts of odd directions. Not to mention the pounding headache and dry mouth. Been there? Yeah I thought so.

Luckily this morning wasn't nearly that bad, but I did wake up feeling quite hazy after a wine tasting at The Cellar Rat with my roomie. The extra glass of Merlot (who orders Merlot? That's when I know I need to stop...) at Cafe Trio probably didn't need to happen.

Feeling "off" this morning reminded me of all the great tunes that can help you get in the right state of mind when you had one of those nights and need to buck up and get to work. This list will help you realize it could be worse (Cold War Kids) or distract you from how horrible you're feeling (Michael Jackson). Don't worry, there's nothing too loud on this list that will make your head pound more. :)

The White Stripes - The Hardest Button to Button
Eric Clapton - Cocaine
Michael Jackson - Black or White
Julian Casablancas - 11th Dimension
Tom Petty - Won't Back Down
Cold War Kids - We Used to Vacation
Blind Melon - No Rain

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Any fun plans? I'm finally going to see The Hunger Games with my book club buddies tonight!

vacay countdown: Dominican Republic

Thursday, March 29, 2012

Have I mentioned that Blue Eyes and I are vacationing in the Dominican Republic next week? No? Just like the last few trips over the past year, this one snuck up on me too. First world problems, I know. But I actually prefer not to dwell on vacations until a few days before I get there. That way my head stays out of la la land at work and my bank account doesn't deplete completely with unnecessary pre-vacation wardrobe purchases.

Now that it's only a week away, I'm thinking non-stop about all the fun things we're going to do (zip lining and learning to surf are top on my list!). And if I win the Mega Millions jackpot on Friday, this is a list of what I'd like to pick up right before we hop on the plane.

This cover up is not on my wish list anymore, because it's en route to my apartment right now. I couldn't help it - it's on sale!

OndadeMar anchor canvas tote

kate spade rugby iphone case

halston heritage pleated maxi skirt
chloe scalloped bikini
To wear that swimsuit I would need to win the lottery AND be tan. So it's safe to say that will never happen, but a girl can dream!

Have you ever been to the Dominican Republic? Please send suggestions my way either in the comments or at finerfeelingskc@gmail.com!

oops... I did it again

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Sorry I'm not sorry for the b. spears reference in the title. I still love brit brit. But this isn't about her. It's about something I'm confessing to right here, right now: I broke my Lenten promise.... again. BUT, before you judge (you probably already are. See: title of post again in case you missed it) I have been on a mad hunt for a pleated accordion knee-length to maxi skirt since this entry, and I finally found one for a ridiculously low price (under $20!) and in something other than muted burgundy (vom) and black. Here's what's coming to mama in 1-2 days:

Cute, right? It comes in pink too for all you pink lovers.

need a wedding gift? look no further...

Friday, March 23, 2012

Alright party people, it's almost wedding season and you know what that means: most of the discretionary income you earn over the next couple months will be spent on shower gifts, bachelorette shots, travel, new dresses, bachelorette gifts, new shoes, wedding gifts.... omg you know the drill.

Now, I freaking love weddings and I also really like giving gifts. Most times it's easy to pick out something you know the couple wants from their registry. But what happens when everything has been purchased except the dinky $5 spatula and the KitchenAid blender? Or when you want to give something a little different to a great couple? That's where this little Etsy shop will come in handy.

These are my go to gift. The Copper Poppy over at Etsy is where it's at. She can make these charms with any words on them! Gift a set of 6 along with Riedel wine glasses and you're good to go!  I promise this isn't sponsored, I'm just one very happy customer!

happy spring!

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

It was a rainy first day of spring here in Kansas City, but even so there were signs of the season popping up all over. Like these budding tulips on the Country Club Plaza... so beautiful! I can't wait to see what this season brings. I know a few things, like a vacation to the Dominican Republic with Blue Eyes' family, lake road trips, the one year anniversary of finer feelings (woo hoo!) and my one year anny with my job. Wow, so much planned and so much to be thankful for! What are you looking forward to this spring?

new favorite work blouse

Pretty sure the post title gave it away. I am obsessed with this Banana Republic silk top. The only colors available online are the coral pictured and dark navy. But, in the stores they have it in a creamy off-white color, which is what I got! I'm wearing it right now with a coral tank underneath (because it is very sheer), and black cropped skinny pants, which BR hasn't uploaded online yet. They were only $69.50 and Sunday was Friends & Family day, so they were 50% off!  If only I had some bright shoes to kick this outfit to the next level... I'm thinking along the lines of these beauties:

Jessica Simpson Halie

Aldo Capecoral

Happy Tuesday!

weekend inspiration: green

Friday, March 16, 2012

Happy almost St. Patrick's day! As a red head that pretends to have Irish lineage, I LOVE this holiday! And I truly don't think green gets enough attention in the fashion and interior design world. It is my second favorite color (second only to purple) and has some seriously gorgeous shades in its color wheel.

If you watched 30 Rock last night, you saw Jenna Maroney rock one amazingly monochromatic emerald ensemble. I'm sad to say I can't find an image of it yet on the internets, so hopefully you have it saved on your DVR. She looked glamazing.

Depending on the time of the K-State game tomorrow (Go Cats!) I will be heading out to the St. Patty's Day parade in historical Westport in both green AND purple, which is.... wait for it..... also one of my favorite color combinations! Not Barney the dinosaur purple and green, more like this:

Here's where I give lots of love to the beautiful shades of green that should be more prevalent in design and style. Please, out with the pink that clashes with my skin tone and hair, and in with the green! Who's with me?

Enjoy the visual feast, I'm off to imbibe in pre-celebration of St. Patty's!

hump day playlist

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

Happy hump day everyone! I am in sunny Orlando at a conference for my job, and have really been needing some motivational music to keep me awake during the long hours of traveling and sifting through spreadsheets, so I thought I'd share what I'm listening to right now with you all.

Fun. - The whole album!
Penguin Prison - Don't F*ck With My Money
Little Dragon - Ritual Union
Electric Guest - This Head I Hold
Ellie Goulding (Bassnectar Remix) - Lights
Dire Straits, Sting - Money For Nothing

Enjoy!!

happy jeans

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

By now I'm sure you've all seen at least twenty bloggers confess their love of bright, colored jeans for the spring season. I'm in complete cahoots with them. I can't get enough of the images I've been seeing on Pinterest lately. And they're so accessible! Walk in to a Gap, Old Navy, Nordy's, J. Crew, Loft, etc. and you're going to find a lovely assortment of colorful jeans. I added these teal jeans from Nordstrom to my closet a few weeks ago and get compliments every time I wear them, which makes me really happy. So now they're my happy jeans... because of the compliments, but also because they were a steal!

And just in case you can't get enough happy jeans images in your life (who can?).... here's some of my favorite ensembles right now:
