i wonder what they listen to during their work outs.... via
It's been two months since I joined a gym, and I'm shocked thrilled to say I'm keeping up with my goal of working out three times a week. OK, there was one week where I only made it twice, but celebrating special occasions with friends is not something I'm going to miss for a work out. Happy hour > Gym.

What I've enjoyed most about my membership are the group fitness classes. My favorite one is called CXWORX. It's a 30-minute core-focused class developed by Les Mills and taught in over 14,000 gyms around the world. There are new releases every 6 weeks with a fresh playlist and routine. I think the reason I like it so much is because it reminds me of dance class. Let's be honest, that's definitely the reason I like it so much. Anything that brings me back to my dancing/drill team glory days is a winner in my book.

Another reason I like the class is because I get introduced to new pump-up music. Here are some of my favorite songs to work out to right now:

1. Cinema - Benny Benassi, Skrillex remix (at 1:24, I have no words. It's so awesome.)
2. Bass Head - Bassnectar
3. Free Fallin' - Zoe Badwi
4. End of Time - Beyonce (participating in a flash mob might need to get added to the bucket list. This one literally makes me cry everytime.)
5. Alive - Dirty South, Thomas Gold, Kate Elsworth
6. Little Bad Girl - David Guetta, Ludacris, Taio Cruz
7. Heartbeat - Childish Gambino (I have a HUGE crush on Donald Glover, especially after this video.)

What are your favorite work out songs?

friday hangover playlist

Friday, March 30, 2012

We've all been there (and if someone hasn't, it's bound to happen). You go out on a Thursday for an innocent happy hour and before you know it your alarm is going off at 6:45 on Friday morning. Your hair is in a rats nest and your mascara is clumped to eye lashes that are going in all sorts of odd directions. Not to mention the pounding headache and dry mouth. Been there? Yeah I thought so.

Luckily this morning wasn't nearly that bad, but I did wake up feeling quite hazy after a wine tasting at The Cellar Rat with my roomie. The extra glass of Merlot (who orders Merlot? That's when I know I need to stop...) at Cafe Trio probably didn't need to happen.

Feeling "off" this morning reminded me of all the great tunes that can help you get in the right state of mind when you had one of those nights and need to buck up and get to work. This list will help you realize it could be worse (Cold War Kids) or distract you from how horrible you're feeling (Michael Jackson). Don't worry, there's nothing too loud on this list that will make your head pound more. :)

The White Stripes - The Hardest Button to Button
Eric Clapton - Cocaine
Michael Jackson - Black or White
Julian Casablancas - 11th Dimension
Tom Petty - Won't Back Down
Cold War Kids - We Used to Vacation
Blind Melon - No Rain

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Any fun plans? I'm finally going to see The Hunger Games with my book club buddies tonight!

I'm feeding my ears some love on this hump day, where I have found myself in need of a little extra motivation.

Here's what's been helping me through the morning so far....

Kelly Rowland - Motivation (duh!)
Aloe Blacc - I Need a Dollar (his voice = silk)
Madonna feat. Lil Wayne - Revolver (great work out song)
Jay-Z, Kanye West, Otis Redding - Otis
Adele - Right as Rain
Rilo Kiley - Silver Lining (love this video!!)
Lupe Fiasco - The Show Goes On
White Stripes - Icky Thump (oh Jack, how I love thee)
fun. feat. Janelle Monae - We Are Young
Penguin Prison - Don't F*ck With My Money (such a silly song)

Here's to you, Dad

Friday, June 17, 2011

What is everyone doing for Father's Day weekend? We are heading to my dad's happy place, the Lake of the Ozarks, to hopefully bask in the sun but at the very least, drink bloody marys and play board games.

So in honor of my very wonderful father, I'd like to share with you all our father/daughter song.....  this is not a joke. It's just how awesome my dad is... :)

Memorial Weekend Must-Haves

Friday, May 27, 2011

Hello lovelies! And Happy Memorial Day weekend! I hope you all have something wonderful planned, even if it's just kicking back and enjoying some you time.

I am off to the Lake of the Ozarks in t-minus 4 hours. My parents have a beautiful house there (beautiful in the sense that it can sleep 15 people and always has a stocked fridge... not in the white carpet, immaculate interior way) which I frequent almost every weekend during the summer.

Here's what I'm packing...

And a playlist of course:

Foster the People - Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls)
Queen - Bicycle Race
Phil Vassar - Six Pack Summer
Spoon - The Way We Get By
The Secret Handshake - Summer of 98
Steve Reynolds - Dear Rose
Rilo Kiley - Silver Lining
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Minor Thing
Vampire Weekend - Oxford Comma
Mungo Jerry - In the Summertime
Noisettes - Never Forget You
